How To Report The News

  1. Absolutely genius. Loved watching this. It's funny how true this is too - 90% of what you spend 30 minutes watching on the evening news could be boiled down in mere minutes after you subtract the rather useless filler and plethora of commercials. Not to mention what is often considered "news" isn't news at all - like in Anchorman celebrating a whale's birthday on the San Diego news. Classic video.

  2. I just re-watched this video, and found myself once again hysterically laughing. It was kind of a delirious laughter, though, because it's horrible that this video encompasses every cliche that we actually see in current news reporting. It's so sad to think these things really occur; but we do see tons of needless footage, and an immense (and increasing) portion of news is now devoted to human interest pieces.

I think the internet has surged as a source for news because it gives us the freedom to spend as little or as much time on a news topic as we individually choose to.

After my second viewing, I'm left with the question: even if the Internet acts as an increasingly available and prevalent alternative source for news, is it a good thing that broadcast television news has increasingly catered to the majority, yet niche interest in human interest/ soft news coverage?
